GREENVILLE, NC – Ford + Shep prepares to bring a modern culinary experience to 718 Dickinson Avenue in Uptown Greenville.

It was early in 2017 when Owner/Chef Brandon Qualls decided to take a leap of faith and develop a concept to open his own restaurant. With years of restaurant and hospitality industry experience and numerous culinary awards under his belt, it was a task that involved a combination of perfect timing, the ideal location, and the nerves to see it all through.

“The location was the easy part,” explains Qualls. “ I knew that exciting things were happening on Dickinson Avenue in and I wanted to be a part of the change”.

The name Ford + Shep stems from the nicknames of his two little boys, Redford and Shepherd.

Ford + Shep will occupy both the bank teller building on the corner of Pitt and Dickinson Streets as well as the space located immediately behind Smash Waffles. The interior of the building will be part speak-easy, due to its unconventional front entrance that snakes down a monochromatic hallway, and part California modern. The old teller building will be transformed into an outdoor bar that will connect to the main building by means of a glass conservatory space that will facilitate year-round outdoor dining. A fenced patio will also feature a 15-foot fireplace with comfortable outdoor furniture.

A globally inspired, small menu will feature as many locally sourced ingredients as possible and will change every few days to keep things fresh. Qualls has hopes for an urban garden scape on the property where he can plant his own herbs and produce for both bar and kitchen menus. “I am aiming to bring a unique wine selection that is off the beaten path,” says Qualls. “The goal is that people will have a memorable experience and that they will leave having tried something they’ve never had before or learned something new about the wine they ordered. Staff education will be a top priority.”

Qualls expects to create seven full-time jobs with an anticipated opening date in early to mid-April. Limited reservations will be taken for the first several weeks and will be announced on Ford + Shep’s social media accounts (Instagram and Facebook ) in the near future.
