This season marks the 14th year for Freeboot Friday, the official pep-rally to ECU home football games.
Freeboot Friday is Uptown Greenville’s signature fall event that is free to the community and features live music from 5-8pm, crafts and inflatables for kids, a grog garden, and Uptown restaurant food for sale. It’s a great time to mingle with residents, visitors and fellow pirates.
This year, the kids’ section of the event will be expanding. In addition to bounce houses, there will be an obstacle course for children to enjoy. Infamous Purple the Clown will be on site creating swords and balloon animals, and the Jolly Trolley will take attendees on free rides around the Uptown district.
And the Jolly Trolley won’t be the only source of free rides in the Uptown district. Each game day, a free shuttle will run three hours before, during the entire game and two hours after the game with pickup/drop-off locations at Five Points Plaza, Sup Dogs and Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.
In addition to fun activities for kids and families, live music is one of the main draws of Freeboot Friday; this year’s line up is one of the most diverse the series has ever seen. Ethiopian roots, reggae band Dub Addis will kick-off the Freeboot season on August 29. Freebooters at this event will also receive a visit from the Marching Pirates and the ECU Cheerleaders.
Returning this season on September 19th is Beatles tribute band Liverpool. The band portrays the sound of The Beatles full throttle with authentic costumes, mop-top hair and vintage guitars.
The October 3rd event will feature local favorite David Dixon Trio. The trio plays an exciting mix of rock and soul music that appeals to all demographics. The David Dixon Trio is currently touring the southeast and will release a full-length album this October.
On October 24th, Five Points Plaza will be immersed in enthusiastic folk rock and world beat Americana music from The Ragbirds. Coming to Greenville from Ann Arbor, Michigan, The Ragbirds will take the stage with violins, mandolins, guitars and percussion layered over a sweet leading voice and versatile songwriting.
The season will end on November 21st with a performance from the 10-piece legendary jazz ensemble, The Monitors.
All Freeboot Friday events are held at Five Points Plaza in the heart of Greenville from 5-8pm on ECU home football Fridays.
