The Uptown Retail Challenge makes its debut

Uptown Greenville and City of Greenville’s Office of Economic Development staff revealed the Uptown Retail Challenge at the Greenville-Pitt Chamber of Commerce Business Expo. This annual event held at the Greenville Convention Center hosts an array of business owners showcasing their services and merchandise to consumers from Greenville and surrounding areas.

The Uptown Retail Challenge is aimed at promoting economic development by attracting new/relocating retail business in the Uptown Commercial District.  Uptown Greenville, City of Greenville, and local business partners are making significant strides towards revitalizing Greenville’s central business district. This incentive program is a collaborative effort to provide an awards package to one new or relocating retail business a year. The award will include subsidies for rent, utilities, and advertising for a value up to $15,000.

If you would like more information about the Uptown Retail Challenge, please contact Bianca Shoneman at 252-402-6888 or Bianca@uptowngreenville.com

American Tavern with an Irish Twist Opening This Summer in Uptown Greenville

{Greenville, NC} - Residents of Greenville and students of East Carolina University should prepare themselves for a new flavor in town. Kevin Marcuse and Todd Milner, owners of Kennedy's Premium Bar and Grill and Fitzgerald's Irish Pub in Charlotte and Chapel Hill, are expanding into the Greenville market with their third Fitzgerald's Irish Pub location.  Fitzgerald’s is taking over the former Pirate’s Den location at 113 East 5th St. and will open this summer in the Uptown district.

Fitzgerald's is an American Tavern with an Irish twist.   The fusion of an eclectic mix of American comfort food with a few mouthwatering Irish classic selections will bring satisfaction to diners seven days a week. "We are very excited to be a part of the redevelopment of Uptown Greenville,” states Marcuse.

Fitzgerald’s will be the perfect place to gather with friends or catch the game. There will be at least 35 large screen TVs spread throughout the bar which will create a fantastic sports viewing atmosphere. The bar will include a full selection of domestic, import and craft beers as well as a complete selection of popular liquors.

For more information on booking a private party or special event, please contact Lauren Shoaf at lauren.shoaf@fitzgeraldschapelhill.com.

Questions regarding the solicitation may be addressed to:

Bianca Shoneman

Uptown Greenville

PO Box 92

Greenville, NC 27835

Shoneman hopes to keep and feature, if possible, the building’s architectural elements. “Things that make this space unique and beautiful are already in place,” she said. “It has modillion cornices, which I’ve learned are one of the less common types, and these gorgeous half-circle fanlights. I hope to be able to feel the history alive there.”

As much as the benefits to historic preservation and cultural value, the renovation would also serve a practical purpose. “This is a major project for Greenville,” Shoneman said. “We are really missing out by not taking advantage of this beautiful and valuable asset that’s right here. Once we get this theater renovated, it will be the kind of place that will move our city to the next level in entertainment and performance arts, boost our economy and enhance our quality of life.”
